Seapilot has released its navigation app for Windows
mobile devices. Continuing its focus on mobility, the Seapilot
Navigation app, originally available on Apple and Android
devices, is now available for free from the Windows Phone
The Seapilot Navigation app displays S-57 vector chart data on its proprietary chart engine. When used with a direct GPS connection, the app shows position and presents up-to-the-minute AIS data on most portable devices.
The Seapilot app is capable of displaying current position information, course and speed vectors for AIS targets, and in-app weather data for increased situational awareness. Designed for autonomous navigation, charts are downloaded directly to a device, so Internet access is not necessary while on the water. The app allows boaters to set routes and waypoints, mark objects, and assess the bearing and range between plotted points and the vessel.
"We are proud to announce that the long-awaited Windows Phone 8 version of our popular Seapilot Navigation app is now available," said Jens Johansson, CEO, Seapilot. "The Seapilot app can be used on all three major platforms - Apple iOS, Android and Windows 8. We can now bring vital safety data about local shipping traffic and weather to almost all mobile users with our powerful navigation software."
Since its launch in 2011, Seapilot has evolved from an exclusive iPad app with only Swedish charts, to a universal app for iOS, Android and Windows 8 mobile devices, with charts in vectorized S-57 format for most of northern Europe, the U.S. and Canada.
"The Seapilot Navigation app is very well known in Europe and we are thrilled that Seapilot chose to invest in our system and our users by adapting it to Windows," said Thomas Floberg, Business Group Lead - Windows and Surface, Microsoft. "At Microsoft, we believe what we do helps our customers get things done. The Seapilot app embraces that philosophy. It strengthens our offerings and adds incredible value for our users."
Newly registered users have the ability to test the app and available charts free for 36 hours from first sign-in. Users can then choose which features to purchase. Once chart subscription purchases are made, the charts may be downloaded onto any mobile device running Seapilot, whether smartphone or tablet, regardless of operating system.
Pricing and Availability
The Seapilot Navigation app is free to download from the Windows Phone Store. Chart subscriptions and desired additional functions will be available for purchase.
